Update, 9/2: The suspect was arrested for 20001(a) VC, Hit and Run with Injury and transported to Sonoma County Jail. City staff informed Bike Petaluma that the cause of the collision was inattentive driving.
Bike Petaluma was terribly saddened to hear of Friday night’s hit-and-run collision on Caulfield Lane that left a 68 year-old man severely injured. Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones in this difficult time; we wish him a quick recovery.
We encourage anyone with details about the collision to contact the Petaluma Police Department immediately at 707-776-3721.
No one should have to fear for his/her safety while walking or bicycling around town. Between 2006 and 2016, five people on bikes were hit and injured while riding on Caulfield Lane between Lakeville St. and S. McDowell Blvd. Bike Petaluma will continue to call on City staff and leadership to make safety a priority so tragic incidents like this one do not continue to take place on our streets.
Thank you for your good work.

Were there similarities in these incidents? Did they occur in a particular area? Are there mitigations–signage, lane markings, etc-that could alleviate the danger?
